Heavy Color talking Healing Music in Current Mag

ben cohen June 24, 2021

Excerpt from the Article : Transcendent is a lofty word to apply to a piece of music, or its songwriters. But I really can’t resist it when I’m listening to a piece by Heavy Color. Even just the name of this Toledo-based avant-psychedelia/electronica duo would be indicative of their characteristics — a build toward, or a cadenced acceleration toward — a sort of elevation beyond the weight of existence and ascending into the sublime polychromatic patchworks of an idealized vision — a waking dream. And, yes, their aspirations are typically that high when they approach a new production, but the listener’s experience is infinitely more chill, soul-calming, and altogether load-lightening.

MUSIC FOR THE FILM INVISIBLE HAND 180G LIMITED EDITION VINYL (AVAILABLE NOW)

ben cohen June 24, 2021

From Curious Music :

MUSIC FOR THE FILM INVISIBLE HAND 180G LIMITED EDITION VINYL (AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW)

Curious Music is pleased to announce the limited-edition vinyl 180g vinyl release of Heavy Color’s Music for the film Invisible Hand. Beautifully recorded and mastered, this release sounds stunning on vinyl.

This release comes in a limited issue of 300 copies on 180-gram black vinyl in a matte varnish sleeve.

The vinyl was pressed by Memphis Record Pressing in Memphis, Tennessee.

Executive produced by actor Mark Ruffalo and directed by award-winning filmmakers Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman, Invisible Hand is the world’s first documentary film about the Rights of Nature movement, which critics call a “paradigm shifting” story about the global battle between Nature, capitalism and democracy. Ruffalo has spent years as a water defender and environmental advocate. “More and more, we are waking up to the fact that the world around us is being poisoned,” Ruffalo said. “The water, air and land have become toxic dumps, and the law is rigged against us.” Cradled in both Haudenosaunee prophecy and free market economic theory, the result is a film that asks, “If a corporation has rights, why can’t an ecosystem?”

Drawing inspiration from nature, Heavy Color composed much of the score for winds, strings and voice, something of a departure from the dense electronic approach of their previous releases. Joining Cohen and Woldenberg on Music for the film Invisible Hand are Patrick Booth (Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Soprano Saxophone), Mike Savina (Electric Guitar), Wesley Hornpetrie (Cello), Jeffrey Niemeier (Violin and Electric Violin) and Estar Cohen (Vocals).

Heavy Color Scoring Invisible Hand | Documentary on Rights of Nature Movement

ben cohen June 11, 2020

Heavy Color is excited to be scoring the documentary Invisible Hand - WWW.INVISIBLEHANDFILM.COM

INVISIBLE HAND is the new Rights of Nature documentary by Public Herald, an investigative news nonprofit holding accountable those who put rights at risk.

INVISIBLE HAND is the world’s first documentary film about the creation of ‘Rights of Nature.’ The defining battle of our times where nature, democracy and capitalism face off in rural America.

Produced by award-winning actor Mark Ruffalo, INVISIBLE HAND takes you behind the curtain of the global economy where ‘Rights of Nature’ becomes “capitalism’s one true opponent.”

In the fall of 2014, for the first time in United States history, an ecosystem filed to defend itself in a lawsuit claiming its ‘right to exist' in Grant Township, Pennsylvania. For attempting such a radical act, Grant’s rural community of 700 people were sued by a corporation, then by the state government, and are now locked in a battle to defend the watershed they call home through civil disobedience. The water they drink, the Rights to Nature laws they've passed are all on the line in this exclusive story.

Half a continent away in Standing Rock, North Dakota, the same industry threatening Grant Twp. is using militarized force against indigenous tribes and allies fighting to protect Mother Earth. The two, Grant Township and Standing Rock, are joined in an international fight to protect more than just water. They fight for their community, democracy, and for Nature as a living entity unto itself.

In the end, "Who will speak for Nature?"
