Heavy Color Live Offerings 2023

Heavy Color Live Ensemble

Heavy Color is preparing a set of intimate music that blends elements of traditional folk music and instruments, sound design, modern jazz and ambient music while deconstructing these elements in real time via live capture and altered playback, blending the organic with the otherworldly. For these sets of dates we are arranging music for a small group focusing on affected string instruments and modulated percussion to perform pattern-based, hypnotic music influenced by the folk melodies of their eastern European grandparents.

The lineup will feature:

  1. A Small drum kit with affected percussion, affected ukulele.

  2. Electric and acoustic stringed instruments and guitar.

  3. Affected Ukulele Bass acting as both a pitched percussion instrument, and as a substitute for upright.

  4. Altered Clarinet and Soprano Sax

  5. Affected Vocals

Suite for Sunrise and Sunset

In addition to more traditional concert spaces and listening rooms, the group is also offering performances at Sunset or Sunrise in outdoor settings. Performances in outdoor settings such as hilltops, observatories, rooftops, arboretums, museum pavilions, gardens…. These could be either booked as sunrise or sunset shows. These performances could exist on their own as a stand-alone event or booked as a unique offering at appropriate music and art festivals.

Music composed with the intention of being performed in the moments before and after the Sunrise and Sunset, and in view of the horizon. On a hilltop, in a garden or an open field, gathered in the silence of predawn to greet the new light. Music as an acknowledgment and as an offering.  It is our aim to create an intentional and thoughtful space to commune with this often overlooked ritual. To facilitate an experience that is simultaneously communal and deeply personal.Sunrise and Sunset. As fundamental as any symbol we have. All life falls within that gradient. A living score to a silent film, the coming and fading light of the sun.  A reconnection and re-alignment with our beloved communities at dawn and at dusk.
